No affiliation
Project Reclaimer is an independent, free, non-commercial fan project made by volunteers. It is not affiliated with, endorsed, sponsored, approved or supported by Microsoft Corporation, Xbox Game Studios, Halo Studios, 343 Industries, Bungie, Activision, Valve, or any of their subsidiaries or partners.
Please don't contact any of those companies for help with Project Reclaimer.
Trademarks
Halo, Halo: The Master Chief Collection, Xbox and Windows are trademarks of the Microsoft group of companies. Steam is a trademark of Valve Corporation. All other trademarks are the property of their respective owners.
We use these names in plain text only, to tell you which game and platform Project Reclaimer works with. We don't use their logos, artwork or typefaces, and nothing on this site should be read as a claim of partnership or endorsement.
No game content
Project Reclaimer is our own software. Neither this website nor any Project Reclaimer download contains the game's program files, maps, models, textures, audio, fonts, artwork, screenshots or any other part of the game. Every image on this site, including the Project Reclaimer logo, was made for this project.
This site's typeface is Barlow Semi Condensed by the Barlow Project Authors, used under the SIL Open Font License 1.1.
When you run Project Reclaimer, it reads the game's files from your own installation on your own PC and leaves them unchanged. Server hosts copy the few files a server needs from their own installation. Those copies are for your own use: don't share them with others.
Your part
- Use Project Reclaimer only with a copy of the game you legitimately own.
- Don't redistribute the game's files, including the ones a dedicated server uses.
- You're responsible for how you use the software and for the servers you run, including their moderation and any laws that apply to you.
No warranty
Project Reclaimer is work-in-progress software, provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind. Use it at your own risk. The project and its contributors aren't liable for any damage or loss arising from its use.
Privacy
This website
This website uses no cookies, analytics, trackers or advertising, and loads nothing from other sites: its fonts, scripts and images are all served from here. The web host may keep standard server logs, such as IP addresses and requested pages, for security and operations. Links to our Discord server take you to Discord, which has its own privacy policy.
The software
- Your profile (nickname and key), settings and campaign progress are stored on your PC in
Documents\My Games\Project Reclaimer. We don't run accounts and don't receive them. - When you join a server, its host can see your nickname, player ID and IP address, and the server's log records them. Dedicated servers also keep their text chat in a log, with each sender's player ID, unless the host turns that off, and a host who turns on a server's remote console can pass your nickname, service tag, player ID, address, chat, joins, kills and in-game state, such as your health, to their own moderation tools. Servers are run by their hosts, not by us.
- When you browse servers, the master servers your client reads, starting with the two default masters (the project's public master and a second master), see your IP address, and so does every server they list: the browser asks each server directly what it's playing. Servers on 0.8.14 or later answer with the nicknames of the players on them, so anyone browsing sees who is playing where.
- When you host online, your game's address is reported to both default masters (and, while neither answers, to three other masters) and listed to players, unless the game is hidden. Without an address set, the software asks your router or
api.ipify.orgfor your public IP address. - Mods from Steam Workshop: when you join a server whose mods you lack, the client asks the Steam app on your PC to download them from the Workshop, unless you turn off Settings → Mods → Prefer Steam Workshop. Steam handles that download under your Steam account and Valve's privacy policy. The client doesn't subscribe you to anything, doesn't ask for your Steam login, and sends nothing extra to us.
- Voice chat is relayed live through the server you're on and is never recorded.
- Discord status: while the Discord app runs on your PC, the client tells it what you're playing: the game type, map, server name and player count. On a public server it adds that server's address to a Join game button. Discord shows this on your profile under its own privacy policy. Turn it off, or just the button, under Settings → Connectivity. The client also registers
reclaimer://join links for your Windows account, so this site's join page can open it. - Updates: the client asks GitHub for the newest release of Project Reclaimer when it starts and every few hours, and downloads an update from GitHub when you choose to, so GitHub sees your IP address and which version you run. Nothing else about you is sent.
- Server updates: a dedicated server whose host turns on automatic updates (
auto_update) asks GitHub for the newest release when it starts and every hour, and downloads updates from GitHub, so GitHub sees the server's IP address and which version it runs. Nothing about its players is sent. It's off unless the host turns it on. - Stats: the client looks up ranks from the project's public stats service unless you change or clear it under Settings → Connectivity, so that service sees your IP address. If a server reports to a stats service, that service records finished games and results linked to your player ID. Dedicated servers report to the project's public service unless their host turns it off.
Credits
Thanks to the ElDewrito team for paving the way: ElDewrito showed that Halo 3 on PC was possible, and its work was the reference for ours. Project Reclaimer is independent and not affiliated with them.
Thanks also to astral4's fsbex for the menu music's audio setup tables (MIT license, shipped with every release), and to vgmstream for its notes on the game's sound bank format.
The client's Credits page, on the main menu, lists these and every open-source library built into it with its license.
